Analog / HD-over-coax: RG59 siamese
For analog, HD-TVI, HD-CVI or AHD cameras, run RG59 siamese cable: video and 18AWG power in one jacket, so it is one pull instead of two. Our RG59 Siamese Cable 100m is UV-resistant for outdoor runs.
IP / PoE cameras: Cat6
IP cameras use Cat6 UTP for data and power over a single cable. Our Cat6 Cable 305m box supports Gigabit to 100m and PoE without overheating. Use outdoor-rated or conduit-run cable for exterior walls.
Run-length limits
Keep Cat6 PoE runs under 100m. Beyond that, use a wireless bridge or a long-range PoE switch. Coax analog can go further but loses signal — use baluns and amplifiers for long pulls.
Terminate cleanly
Finish runs with BNC connectors (coax) or proper RJ45 terminate + DC plugs (power). A cable tester confirms continuity before you close up.

Can I run Cat6 outside without conduit?
Use outdoor-rated (CMX/UV-stable) Cat6 and keep it off direct sunlight where possible. For buried runs, use direct-burial or run it inside conduit to avoid rodent and moisture damage.
RG59 or Cat6 for a new install?
For a new IP camera system, Cat6 with PoE is simpler — one cable carries power and data. Keep RG59 for existing analog or HD-over-coax cameras.
